Does Safi need the internet?
Only for radio streaming, the clock (and therefore the scheduler), and the dashboard's reachability from your browser. SD playback, NFC cards, and the physical controls all work fully offline.
Is there a phone app?
No, by design. The dashboard is a website served by the device itself; it works in every browser and needs no account, store, or updates on your side.
Can I use any SD card?
Any microSD formatted FAT32. 8 to 32 GB cards are the sweet spot; larger cards work if you format them FAT32 yourself. Speed class does not matter for audio.
What audio formats play?
MP3 and WAV from the SD card, MP3, AAC, and HE-AAC for radio streams. M4A files do not play; re-encode them to MP3.
How long does the battery last?
With a 2000 mAh cell: roughly 8 to 12 hours of playback with the screen dimming normally. Standby is dominated by WiFi; the low-battery shutdown saves your position and deep-sleeps before the battery is harmed, and pressing the encoder wakes it.
Why does the browser warn about the certificate?
The device signs its own HTTPS certificate because no public authority issues certificates for private IP addresses. Accept it once; traffic is still encrypted. See the dashboard guide.
Where is the API token?
The dashboard prompts you for it on first use, and again if any action is refused. To obtain it, read the device's USB serial console (115200 baud) at first boot: it prints the token once in a NEW API TOKEN GENERATED block. It is intentionally never displayed over the network. The clock shows --:-- , is something broken?
No; the device simply has not synchronized time yet. It needs WiFi once per boot for that. The scheduler waits for a synchronized clock on purpose.
Can two people control it at once?
Yes. Any number of dashboard sessions stay live simultaneously, and physical controls always work; every change propagates to everyone within a fraction of a second.
Can I add my own recitations?
Yes, anything MP3 on the SD card following the naming rules appears in the library. It does not have to be Quran.
Is my data collected anywhere?
No. There is no telemetry, no cloud, and no account. The device talks to the internet only for streams you play, time sync, and firmware downloads you explicitly request.
